Fishtail palms are so named due to their "fish tail" leaf appearance.  They are a clumping palm that does well as a shrubbery border.  In this photo they have matured to form a tropical privacy wall by the poolside on Siesta Key.

Fishtail palms are clustering meaning they grow many new suckers, multiplying and gaining ground.  Keep any clumping shrub in tact by selectively removing unwanted suckers.  Also, be wary that Fishtail palms are cold sensitive and will take a hit with dying foliage with freezing temperatures.
