Bald cypress grow naturally in Florida wetlands and lakes. Most people don't know they do well on dry land as well. They grow quite large, so it is a good idea to plant them away from buildings. During the winter the leaves turn bronze, then fall off.
You can plant a small forest of cypress trees in front of your house for instant shielding and shade. The problem with this is that the trees will soon outgrow the house. Also, they drop all their leaves in the fall, making a mess.
